Types of Massage

Custom Massage

Custom massage encompasses any modality of massage therapy that the therapist and client decide is best given their needs. It is performed on the massage table with oils and varying methods to relieve tension and provide a sense of wellness using relaxing touch. This massage offers versatility to newcomers as well as those familiar with massage. The client can be in varying degrees of dress, depending on their comfort level.

Deep Tissue

During the Deep Tissue massage, the therapist uses varying degrees of pressure depending on the clients needs. Pressures can range from medium firm pressure to very firm pressure; this allows release of deep muscles and fascia that may not be responding to surface method massages or causing referred pain.

Watsu (Aquatic Massage)

While in a 95 degree therapy pool, you are guided by the therapist and floated so you can fully relax in the water. Using slow, gentle movements, the therapist applies pressure to relax soft tissues and release tired muscles. This assisted water yoga movement is designed and adapted to leave your mind and body feeling relaxed and more flexible. Both the client and practitioner are dressed in swimwear to allow ease of movement and flexibility. No oils or creams are used and you are required to shower beforehand to keep the pool free of contaminants.

Cupping Therapy

Cupping therapy is the method of using glass or plastic cups to create localized pressure by a vacuum. Often, circular marks are left on the skin from this practice, however, that rarely happens at J Rose Massage and Aquatics. With added movement and oils, we glide the cups around the back to avoid marks like those. Cupping therapy can be used to release tension, draw out toxins, increase blood circulation, and loosen cellulite & scars.

Pregnancy/Prenatal Massage

Pregnancy massage is a catch-all term for any hands-on massage during or after pregnancy (prenatal or postnatal massage). A pregnancy massage typically lasts an hour. The therapist uses specially designed pillows called bolsters to position a woman comfortably. Like in relaxation & deep tissue massage, the client determines their level of dress and massage lotion is often used. For a little more information, check out the Web MD page on prenatal massage

Sports massage

Sports massage is done primarily to aide in the release and healing of muscles and tendons. It is also used to treat chronic and referred pain from injuries. Many types of massage are combined for a custom tailored massage specific to each client's needs.

Hot Stone Therapy

Hot stone massage therapy promotes deeper muscle relaxation through the movement of smooth, water-heated stones on key points of the body. The direct heat of the stones relaxes muscles, allowing the therapist access to their deeper muscle layers with less intensity. The hot stones have sedative effects that can relieve chronic pain, reduce stress and promote deep relaxation.

RockTape/Kinesio Tape

Rock tape, also known as kinesiology tape, is used by practitioners throughout the world to treat injuries and improve sports performance. The tape accelerates healing and recovery by lifting the skin away from the soft tissue underneath, allowing more blood to move into the injured area. Rocktape is a natural-hybrid product and consists of 97% cotton, 3% nylon and uses no drugs. The adhesive is a hypo-allergenic acrylic based adhesive and contains no latex.
